Abstract
⺠Educational gaps in never smoking explain most of the education gap in adult smoking. ⺠This is true across the life course, for both men and women. ⺠The effect of education gaps in quitting itself depends on differences in initiation. ⺠Educational gaps in adult smoking are tied to behaviors in adolescence. ⺠Understanding inequalities in adult smoking require a life course approach.
