Abstract
A simple setup of band selective amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) broadband light source that can operate in either the conventional band (C-band, 1525–1565 nm) or the long wavelength band (L-band, 1565–1605 nm) region is presented. The band selective ASE source is realized using a piece of unpumped erbium-doped fiber and a 1×2 optical switch in a single-backward-pumped configuration. A 40.9 mW C-band or 37.5 mW L-band ASE source is alternately obtained merely by controlling the state of the optical switch.
► A new method to build up selective dual-band ASE source was proposed. ► Operating band of the ASE source was determined by using an optical switch. ► The 40.9 mW C-band or 37.5 mW L-band ASE spectrum was alternately obtained.
