Abstract
The main objective of this article is to present empirical evidence in favor of addicted rational model (Becker and Murphy, 1988), for the case of the demand for alcoholic beverages, using information from Mexico. The estimation of equations is based on the general method of moments (gmm). Estimates of price elasticities in the short and long term, suggest that a public apolitical supported only in prices is not very effective in reducing the consumption of alcoholic beverages in Mexico
