Abstract

A new method for improving the multiple low-contrast fingerprint detections using a compression-based joint wavelet-transform correlator (CBJWTC) is proposed. The simulation results show that besides having high ability to discriminate multiple low-contrast fingerprints by using smaller file size for the compressed reference, the proposed method can minimize false alarm problem and dependency on the compression.

► Detection of multiple low-contrast fingerprints via compression-based JTC is studied. ► Reference is JPEG-compressed low-contrast image and targets have different noises. ► By incorporating wavelet filter, the proposed method has high discrimination ability. ► Dependency of the detection performance on the compression can be minimized. ► False alarm problem can be minimized, regardless of the noise level.
