Abstract
This paper approaches several points of view about the methodological revolution that emerged from the process of formulating economic theories in mathematical terms, paying more attention to the period from the late nineteenth century to the close of the twentieth century. In a historical and social context, the author shows the positive outcomes when using mathematical methods to deep the economic knowledge, and how this process is also positive to new mathematical areas. Finally some misunderstandings are cleared, such as the risk of thinking as a progress any attempt to obtain a mathematical shape to economic ideas or the belief that the methodologies of economics are reduced to mathematical methodology.
