Abstract
The aim of this article is to explore the way the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (ipcc) Assessment Reports deal with socio-economic themes. Those reports represent an important systematization of the scientific literature and information to understand the physical science basis of climate change and the risks and impacts of this phenomenon. They also enlighten economists and other social scientists about many challenges addressed to their disciplines. Concerning economics, it is asked to estimate vulnerability and climate change impacts, to define options for adaptation and mitigation and to suggest public policies. There is a demand of valuation and measurement to which it is usually responded with the concepts and instruments of conventional economic theory. It is necessary to study ipcc's analysis and results with a critical perspective.
