Abstract
To address the problem of coherent beam combining through superposed volume gratings, a comprehensive mathematical model has been established and its analytical formula has been derived using coupled wave theory. The effect of each of the individual optical parameters involved in the model on the beam combining were numerically analyzed in detail. The sufficient and necessary conditions to realize efficient beam combining are summarized and discussed.
