Abstract

We experimentally demonstrated a fast infrared (IR) radiation sensor. It is capable of measuring IR radiation independently from the environmental temperature fluctuations. Experimental work shows that this IR detection prototype have strong conveniences (fast response and reliability in harsh environment) compared to previous detectors which makes it a very good option for early fire detection systems.

► A fast infrared (IR) radiation sensor has been experimentally demonstrated. ► Sensing points are fibered bolometers (FBG pairs) and OFDR is the interrogation unit. ► Test FBG is covered by IR-absorbing material to create a temperature increase. ► Bragg wavelength will linearly shift with the incident IR flux intensity. ► Applications such as early fire detection and monitoring of hot spots can be envisaged.
