Abstract

•Proposed a novel method of generating a homography fringe for periodic consistency.•The planar homography is used to generate a fringe image on the captured image plane.•A camera model on the reference plane is mapped onto the projection plane to obtain a fringe image.•The proposed method does not require complex projection lens distortion or the projection angle deflection model.

The traditional method of phase fringe generation often results in a lack of periodic consistency of the fringe, leading to increased phase errors due to projection lens distortion and projection angle deflection. This study proposed a novel method of homography fringe generation. The planar homography relationship between the coordinates of the projected image and the camera-captured coordinates was used to generate a fringe image on the captured image plane. The image was then converted and projected onto the projection plane to obtain a corrected fringe image of periodic consistency, thus effectively reducing phase errors caused by an inconsistent period. The proposed method can effectively generate a fringe image of periodic consistency by homography relationship without considering the complex projection angle deflection or the projection lens distortion model.
