Abstract

•Fabrication of Ni1−xZnxFe2O4 (x = 0, 0.5 and 1) nanoparticles gas sensor.•Gas sensor for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ethanol, ammonia and chlorine gas.•Response in the form of sensitivity (%) at 200 ppm and at different flow rates.•Ni1−xZnxFe2O4 (x = 0) is good sensor for ethanol.•Composition x = 0.5 and 1 are good sensor for ammonia and chlorine gas respectively.

Fabrication of Ni1−xZnxFe2O4 (x = 0, 0.5 and 1) nanoparticles gas sensor for LPG, ethanol, ammonia and chlorine gas is main goal of this work. The response of these gases was studied in the form of sensitivity (%) as a function of composition, temperature and flow rate (ppm). Sensitivity (%) was found to be maximum at intermediate temperature and it was found that there are two values of intermediate temperature for compositions x = 0.5 and 1. It was also observed that flow rate increases up to 200 ppm, sensitivity (%) is highest and further increase in flow rate, sensitivity (%) becomes saturate for each composition and at both intermediate temperature. From the results it was concluded that Ni1−xZnxFe2O4 nanoparticles of composition x = 0, 0.5 and 1 are very good sensor for ethanol, ammonia and chlorine gas respectively.
