Abstract
Elasticity and plasticity are generally considered as engineering topics. In these lectures, I will try to show that they can also be seen as interesting problems from a statistical physics standpoint, emphasising the universal, material independent features. I will focus on the case of amorphous solids, which has undergone many recent experimental and theoretical developments.
