Abstract
In this paper an analytical and experimental evaluation of a magnetorheological damper is described. Based on modelling the friction force effects between the MR fluid and the device walls, a continuum electromechanical model describing the damper behaviour is formulated. A magnetorheological device was fabricated to validate the model being tested under static and steady-state load conditions and applied magnetic field values. The friction coefficient and the magnetic permeability of the MR fluid are estimated experimentally, and the effectiveness of the proposed model is verified.
