Preoperative identification of postoperative nausea and vomiting risk, risk stratification, and compliant use of targeted prophylactic anti-emetic interventions reduce the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in the post-anesthesia care unit. Use of proxy metrics are less reliable compared to direct measures.
