Projectile impact fractures and launching mechanisms: results of a controlled ballistic experiment using replica Levallois points

► Identical copies of a Levallois point from Jabrud were cast in glass and hafted. ► Spears were fired from an air-gun at a ballistic gelatine and synthetic bone target. ► Increasing the kinetic energy (KE) at impact increases extent and type of damage. ► Decreasing the angle of incidence has equivalent effects to increasing KE.
