Abstract
The findings of this study support the findings of the synthetic studies in terms of variability and the inaccuracy of classical descriptions of mummification. Thanks to the greater degree of detail, and the comparability of those details, fourteen new hypotheses derived from the synthetic studies were also tested using the IMPACT sample. The finer detail and consistent assessment permitted by access to primary data also resulted in several new findings, including positive status associations for resin inclusion and the apparent Theban character of linen cranial packing.
