Abstract
This study investigates the factors affecting housing tenure choice by applying Hierarchical Generalized Linear Modelling (HGLM) for estimation and by using the Survey of Residential Status in Taipei as the sample for analysis. Empirical results show that household sector tenure choice behaviours vary according to administrative regions; for administrative region characteristic variables, a higher degree of commercialization and a higher park area ratio leads to a higher preference among households to purchase homes, whereas a higher school area ratio influences the choice of the household sector to rent homes. Furthermore, housing purchases among the household sector increase with higher loan-to-value ratios and greater accessibility to private loans.
