Abstract
⺠Young people experience neighbourhood conditions differently from adults. ⺠This paper considers how the social and physical environment may present risks for their mental health. ⺠'Neighbourhood' risk factors considered are: material deprivation and violence/ victimization. ⺠Findings from this review are suggestive of complex causal pathways operating over time. ⺠Qualitative research on the geographical experience of young people can enhance understanding of the causal pathways involved.
