Abstract
ⶠHybrid lay-scientific concepts either arise outside science and are later accepted by it, or have a scientific origin and are adopted by the policy domain. ⶠExamples include desertification, sustainable management and biodiversity. ⶠAccumulating multiple features in an unstructured way contributes to uncertainty. ⶠFocusing on their quantifiable state attributes should reduce uncertainty.
