Abstract
⺠Achieving sustainability requires radical and deliberate changes in knowledge systems. ⺠Scientific practice needs better orientation toward societal concerns and action. ⺠More open knowledge systems imply both institutional and individual change. ⺠Core features of effective knowledge arenas are now well-known. ⺠Exemplary transdisciplinary experiences need to be mainstreamed.
