Abstract
⺠In historical perspective disasters produce minor effect on economic growth. ⺠Modern economy is increasingly vulnerable to natural hazards and disasters' impact. ⺠Disasters affect more the developing than rich economies with Russia being in the middle. ⺠Disaster risk reduction should be mainstreamed into development strategies. ⺠Increasing direct government involvement in disaster risk reduction is imperative.
