Abstract
► Environmental efficiency in 63 countries over the period 1981-2005 was analyzed. ► A directional distance function and metafrontier approach is applied. ► Both the desirable output and undesirable output data were collected. ► The estimation of environmental efficiency depends on income level. ► High income countries achieved highest environmental efficiency.
