► It examines impacts of non-resident parking restrictions at commuter rail stations. ► It uses a dataset containing information from 32,400 commuter rail passengers. ► It uses four types of statistical models to examine effects of parking restrictions. ► Stations with parking restrictions are found to have smaller catchment areas. ► Restricted stations are less likely to be used by non-residents.
