Abstract
⺠Travel behaviour research can benefit from conceptualisations of habit from beyond psychology. ⺠Habit is more than automatically cued repetition; it is a propulsive, generative tendency. ⺠Behaviour change is about working with rather than against existing habits. ⺠Breaking high-carbon habits necessitates durable changes to socio-technical systems. ⺠The rise of low-carbon habits and spontaneity within high-carbon habits need to be fostered.
