Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyse the role of “death” in Doktor Zhivago. In novels, there are various forms of deaths (death from illness, murder, suicide, etc.), even “fake deaths”. However, death in Doktor Zhivago is not at all tragic but rather contributes to establishing an atmosphere of affirming life. In this manner, death fulfils an important function in the plot/story, and thus there may be an establishment of cycles of “death/life/resurrection”. In Pasternak's world, the border between life and death, eternity and moment, and god and human disappears and resurrection enters into a close relation with memory, and through this, religious and philosophical characteristics are reinforced in the work.
