Abstract
The AHDL is divided into two parts, Lake Nasser in Egypt and Lake Nubia in Sudan. Lake Nubia was studied by the same authors using RS/GIS and the amount of sediment was estimated to be 5.876 billion m3 till 2012. Consequently, the main focus of this paper is to estimate the total amount of sediments deposited in Lake Nasser in the period (1964- 2012) in order to make it possible to optimize the utilization of the sediment and accurately manage its removal in a better way using RS and GIS techniques via building 3D profiles of the lake. The present computations are compared by the method of cross sections that was adopted by AHDA to detect the total amount of sediment through the investigated field trips. The results showed that the total amount of sediment in the study area till 2012 is about 1.194 billion m3. Also, results indicate that the present approach overestimates the sediment amount by about 2.40% compared to the results of the method used by AHDA.
