Abstract
The article describes a correction approach for thermally induced motion errors of machine tools that utilizes physically based models of the thermal and thermoâelastic behavior of machine tools. After a classification and presentation of the functional principle of the model based approach functional core aspects, possible implementation variants and resulting requirements regarding the control are clarified. Examples are presented for which the functionality of the approach was proved and evaluated as well as compared to other model based thermal correction approaches.
