Abstract
We present several deterministic models for simulating the electrical activity of the heart based on the standard map dynamics. These models exhibit intrinsic non-linearity, which imitates the self-regulatory function of the heart. Synthetic electrocardiographic signals based on deterministic chaos can be used to test signal processing techniques of physiological signals.
Research highlights► Deterministic models for simulating ECGs based on the standard map dynamics. ► ECGs generated by adding chaos, rather than noise, to a quasi-periodic model. ► Applications to testing time series analysis tools to analyze physiological signals.
