Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to review the 12 principles of Green Chemistry proposed by Anastas and Warner (1988). While each principle is stated, examples developed in research laboratories and industrial processes and products are described so as to give a broad perspective of the new techniques, methodologies and organic substances that Green Chemistry has developed. The importance of the ecotoxicology and biodegradability of the new products is also commented, so as to have a perspective of the challenges this discipline should face.
