⺠Silver speciation is crucial to understand its antimicrobial potential. ⺠Silver ions active at the nanomolar level in optimum conditions. ⺠Threefold differences between results in different environments. ⺠Thiol groups completely inactivate silver. ⺠Silver chloride complexes do not exert an antimicrobial effect.
