Abstract
► Multiple lutein esters are described for the first time in ripe raspberries. ► Pigment composition in raspberries changes dramatically over ripening. ► Phytoene and lutein esters increase in late ripening stages, indicating active biosynthesis. ► Ripe fruits contain considerable amounts of lutein, lutein esters and tocopherols. ► Five ripe raspberry varieties analysed showed different isoprenoid contents.
