Abstract
► Analysis and investigation of the causes of the failure of a car suspension system ball joint. ► Fractographic analysis indicated fatigue crack initiation and growth at an unusual place. ► Finite Element Analysis revealed high contact stresses between the ball joint and its cage. ► High stresses along with the presence of acicular ferrite lead to the failure of the element.
