Abstract
Traveler's diarrhea is frequent after a trip in developing countries but post travel persistent or chronic diarrhea is more uncommon. In most cases, persistent diarrhea is due to parasite infections (giardiasis, entamoebosis, cryptosporidiosis, isosporosis, cyclosporosis, strongyloidiosis or schistosomiasis) or to microsporidiosis. Bacterial etiologies are less frequent and involve Aeromonas, Campylobacter, Shigella, Salmonella non typhi and in the case of previous antibiotic treatment, Clostridium difficile. Specific research should be carried out and in the event of negativity of the explorations, the occurrence of a post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome should be considered.
