Abstract
Diarrhea due to Shiga-toxin-producing E. coli occurs following consumption of contaminated food items, and may be complicated by diarrhea-associated Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome usually in young children and elderly. Sporadic cases may be followed by outbreaks. Here we present the french guidelines recently published by the “Haut Conseil de Santé Publique” for the diagnosis and treatment of diarrhea due to Shiga-toxin-producing E. coli, and the infection control measures to conduct facing one sporadic case or a cluster of cases.
