Abstract
The bacterial urinalysis (or urine culture) remains the most prescribed bacteriological analysis in a medical laboratory. The urine culture is essential for making an initial diagnosis or monitoring of a urinary tract infection or noninfectious nephrological diseases. It consists of two inseparable parts: urine cytometry and culture on solid media. Cytology can be performed manually or in an automated manner. In this article, we will deal mainly with three of urine sediment analyzers most encountered on the French Lab market by briefly describing their analytical principles and performance. Manual cytology generally provide semi-quantitative results and a relative inter-operator variability. It also consumes technician time of work. Urine sediment analyzers offers a quantitative result, faster and more reliable. The automated urinalysis enables standardization urinary cytology and offers a substantial saving technician time.
