Abstract
The study of infection epidemiology should allow to identify the mode of acquisition of microorganisms, ways of transmission, dynamic of colonization and risk factors of infection. This type of study implies that the comparison of strains isolated from patients and their environment allow establishing the degree of genetic similarity. Development and assessment of phenotypic and genotypic typing methods are essential in this framework both for community or hospital-acquired infections.
