Abstract
Epidemiological definitions of these infections include both clinical symptoms and microbiological criteria. Microbiology lab assistance is needed to monitor the ratio of infection incidence to the number of days the device was used. Monitoring is critical to managing the risk of infection associated to these invasive devices and to evaluating preventive efforts based on standard precautions, specific measures and sensible use of these medical devices.
