Abstract
The production of papillomavirus virus-like particles in the early 1990's was followed 15 years later by the marketing of two HPV vaccines which efficacy against development of pre-cancerous lesions associated with types 16 and 18 is closed to 100 per cent. This review summarizes our recent knowledge concerning the natural immunity and protection against HPV infection, and presents the most recent data concerning HPV vaccines and immunization.
