Abstract
The term thromboelastograph was used to describe the trace produced from the measurement of the viscoelastic changes associated with fibrin polymerisation. Recently the term rotational thromboelastometry has been applied to describe a new generation of analyser (Rotem®, Pentapharm, Germany), a method that is used for point of care monitoring of acute perioperative bleeding disorders, and to guide blood products use. This review gives an overview of the developments and applications related to thromboelastometry.
