Abstract
The cellular and molecular reactions which characterize inflammation follow a cumulative homeostatic process leading to the liberation of molecular messengers. Among these the expanded eicosanoid family including long-chain oxygenated polyunsaturated products play a central role for the orchestration of the inflammatory reaction. This review outlines the principal molecular events and focuses upon the importance of the released soluble mediators that mobilize the metabolic response during the resolution.
