Abstract
Although preclinical evaluations have showed their potential for anti-cancer immunotherapy, the translation of the results into effective immunotherapy in humans has met with limited success so far and this type of vaccines still remain at the exploratory stage. Nevertheless these studies, as well as results obtained with other immunotherapeutic approaches, have provided new insights into the field of anti-tumor immunotherapy. In the past decade, significant progress has been made in the field of the synthesis of carbohydrate structures, including TAAs and glycoconjugates. Together with a better understanding of tumor immunology, these advances should pave the way to further improvements of carbohydrate-based anti-tumor vaccines.
