Abstract
[Co(L)·2H2O] (1) and [Zn(L)] (2) [L = N-2-hydroxyacetophenon-N′-2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde-1,2 phenylenediimine)], Schiff base complexes have been successfully synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, multi-nuclear spectroscopy (1H and 13C NMR and IR) and their biological activities, including DNA and protein interactions have been studied. Spectroscopic methods have been used to study the interactions between the synthesized Schiff base complexes and Calf Thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) under physiological conditions. UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence, and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy and thermal denaturation measurements were used in the investigation of DNA binding properties of these two complexes. Finally, the theoretical studies by docking method were performed to calculate the binding constants and recognize the binding site of the DNA and BSA with the complexes. Also the bacterial and fungal biodegradation activities of ligand and complexes were studied.262
