Abstract
The Martinelli and Venzi single-specimen method to evaluate CTOA from the load vs load-line displacement curve for SE(B) specimens has been simplified and applied to a high-strength steel. The revised method is simple to apply and does not require estimation of the flow stress. The only data required is the measurement of load and load-line displacement, which may be done routinely and accurately using modern instrumentation. The method could lead to significant improvement in analysis as well as economies compared to the existing two-specimen and single-specimen methods.
