Abstract
Progress in the field of diagnosis focuses mainly on the advances in nanomaterials, particularly bioreceptor-functionalized nonocomposites that assure sensitive detection systems. These highly responsive biosensing platforms, embedded with selective bionanocomposites, provide new diagnostic tools that combine distinct optical, electronic, and catalytic properties of nanocomposites with the specific recognition biomolecules. This study considers some recent advances in the field of carbon-based nanocomposites, their functionalization with biomolecules, and with more emphasis on preparative methods and processing. The complementary discussion of both theoretical and experimental aspects of these biofunctionalized carbon nanocomposites, and their potential applications in clinical/environmental biodiagnostics are presented.
