Abstract
⺠We discuss the history of olfaction in philosophy, aesthetics, and science. ⺠We highlight the challenges and complexity inherent in studying odors. ⺠We discuss mathematical methods used to simplify olfaction. ⺠Collaborations between art and science can help us to better understand olfaction. ⺠Olfaction is a fascinating way to study the interaction of chemistry and biology.
