Abstract
In this paper, fracture failure reasons of a cantilever shaft in an expanding drier were analyzed via microfractography analysis, metallographic examination and mechanical tests. The results showed that the main fracture failure reason of the shaft was caused by the combined action of corrosion and cyclic stress. Insufficient quenching and tempering heat treatment, together with material defects contributed to the shaft failure.
