Abstract
- A large plume of iron and other metals was discovered extending 4000Â km east of the East Pacific Rise.
- A large plume of only iron extends off the Peruvian margin deeper than the oxygen deficient zone.
- Complimentary isotope data reveal reversible scavenging processes within these plumes.
- Sharp redox features for elements within the oxygen minimum zone arise from shelf processes.
