Abstract
⺠Early diagenesis in Aru Sea muds is dominated by metal reduction and aerobic respiration. ⺠Precipitation of authigenic carbonate minerals is a significant process. ⺠Benthic metabolism peaks where upwelling enhances phytoplankton and fisheries production. ⺠Aru Sea sediments are incinerators of organic carbon.
