Abstract

•Overview of diffusion alloyed Cu–Ni–Mo sintered steel mechanical properties is given.•The hardening effects on sintered steel are shown on many material parameters.•Determination of fatigue parameters of a modified Basquin‘s law.•Crack growth threshold and stable crack growth parameters of Paris law are given.•Fracture and impact toughness is evaluated.

This presented paper deals with the mechanical properties of diffusion alloyed Cu–Ni–Mo sintered steel. The material’s response to static and dynamic loading is summarized from previous work and referenced, while the testing methods and results for the fracture mechanics’ parameters are discussed in greater detail. It was observed that despite being more brittle, additionally quenched and tempered sintered steel has a lower crack growth rate than basic sintered steel. However, fracture and impact toughness are reduced after quenching and tempering. The crack growth threshold was found to be very similar and slightly higher after additional heat treatment.
