Abstract
The application of analytical pyrolysis–gas chromatography mass spectrometry (Py–GC/MS) in the failure analysis of two hydraulic cylinders and their rubber membranes from the automotive industry were presented.
► Pyrolysis – gas chromatography/mass spectrometry of polymeric materials in failure analysis in the automotive industry. ► Fouling and fibers from failed hydraulic cylinders and operationally stressed rubber membranes of hydraulic cylinders. ► The analytical results were then used for troubleshooting and remedial action of the technological process.
