Abstract
This paper advocates the use of nonlinear methodology for structural failure analysis. This approach is used for structural failure prediction rather than forensic analysis. Failure prediction has been confirmed by the expensive full-scale testing of a new transmission tower design that collapsed during the test. Using this approach, tower designs can be easily modified and upgraded, which results in substantial savings in time and resources.
